Overall: If the department was full staffed and OT wasn't mandatory with a better attendance system the job wouldn't be as horrible as it sounds. The kicker is the attendance is based on a 10 point system which is really easy to accumulate and hard to remove points off your record. The only shift that allows for a social life is the swing (continuous run) shift but only if you're a machine operator with a reliable opposite team partner. If you are a hard charger don't expect to get promoted without going through a list of other's with more time than you before your number is called. Since this job is union, any job advancement within the plant is all based on seniority. This all depends how soon the company can hire people that will actually stick around. The finishing department is so short staffed that you can be stuck working 12hr workdays, 6 days a week for 4-6 weeks. You're expected to shift change on the fly with barely a day to transition from either early morning or night hours. On standard 8hr shift you will be lucky to get Saturdays off for 1st and 2nd shifts. What really makes this job difficult is getting any time off for a social life. The job is not difficult as you get the hands on training. Please if you get a offer here ask every questions before you take the offer !!!!! I worked this job for a month I resigned it wasn’t nothing I imagined The job is easy but they over work you and always give you mandatory overtime at the last minute so you always have to make your self available for them don’t expect no life outside of here. The pay is good but to really see a good check you have to work a lot of overtime because due to the union dues and the expensive insurance they offer a lot of money will be deducted out of your check they have very high insurances prices. This company don’t explain everything before you accept the job please ask every question before you take the job offer also you only get 2, 10 min breaks and a 20 min lunch for your whole 8 hour shift of standing. They go on a Thursday to Thursday schedule so you never know if you have to work the weekend untill Thursday. so if you get sick that’s a point they don’t care they don’t take dr notes which they don’t tell you before you take the job they have a strict Attendence rule so if you single with no kids no family this is a perfect job for you. They don’t honor sick days or Pto you can’t even request a day off and they give you only a 5 day vacation a year. Morning shift is full of employees that been their for a long time and they are very rude to you and you can’t say nothing because they have sonority over you. A lot of rude people that work their and they don’t like training you. 61 Graphic Packaging International jobs in Carol Stream, IL.
